Profits are what's left over after you pay your employees, vendors, taxes, rent, bills, etc. So, why are profits the sole indicator of a successful business? Why isn't it "provide the best good/service we can while keeping as many employees as happy and content as possible"? If the primary purpose isn't to do what the company ostensibly does as best as possible (for various definitions of "best"), then why even bother?
