Just my 2 sats.

But this is pretty much how I feel about the whole delete thing. We all say stupid shit. We all make mistakes. If you can show that you've grown as a person, there's no reason to delete history to make yourself look perfect. Idiots who dredge up shit that you said five years ago. Hell, even a year ago, are numptys Trying to penalize you for someone you probably aren't anymore. The capacity for humans to grow and change is pretty damn incredible.

I'm sure there are probably good edge cases as to why somebody would want something deleted. But this is not a private centralized protocol. For better or worse nostr is public and open. Think before you speak and don't be to embarrassed if you make a mistake. Shit happens. Your human.
I don't understand the fear of not being able to delete notes.

The Internet is just amplifying the reach of your speech. You can't delete what is posted just like you can't unspeak what you have spoken.

Yes, now there is a permanent record of what you say and everyone can see it. It is the price, and the beauty, of having the Internet megaphone.

So use it wisely. Think twice before you post.

The inability to delete has the potential to make the Internet a better place. To get rid of all the bullshit that goes around elsewhere in centralized apps.

Also, in the early years of the Internet I was told that sharing something on the Internet was like peeing in the swimming pool: once it's out, you can't take it back. I drill this into my kids EVERY day.
