Again, I get that it's invention was pointless. It has value to many people now outside of religious or even legal values. Marriage has become explicitly a symbol of deep love and a tighter bond than a basic relationship. If you don't want to commit to that idea legally, that's your choice, but it does maintain value to others. This is coming from someone who would never want to tie my relationships to the legal system. If I were to get, "married" it would be word of mouth alone due to the social implications.
