I couldn't agree more. I told mine it's no big deal. Part of me likes the idea of being openly celebratory, but you do have to read the girl, and "no big deal" seemed best for us.

I really did experience the whole thing as no big deal. Everyone I knew did. We got through just fine. When you're living it, it doesn't seem to be happening too fast. Everything seems very slow, actually. Time passes differently for young people.

It also never becomes the most important thing in life. There are hobbies and interests. Like the tampon commercials say, you can ski, play tennis, go horseback riding! (Really, you can do those things with pads, too.)
