Especailly if you factor in the value of the warranty. the cheap used mac minis will have the base 8gb. for basic stuff that's enough, but if you want 16gb new with academic discount is the best option. There are aftermarket SSD options so you can upgrade the SSD if you're mechanicly inclined.
Believe it or not the base M4 is actually pretty good at gaming for the 7 games you can play on a mac.
