**There's no shortage of gasoline or diesel in #France.**
Total Energies self-imposed a price cap on them at their stations, so people are all buying from them, and they can't manage to refill the station tanks fast enough to keep up with the rush. So, they run out of their discounted fuel (but not higher forms of refined fuel, as those are sold at market price) for hours at a time until another truck arrives. Although Total is suffering a margin loss per customer, they have attracted so many customers that it has caused their overall profits to rise and is beginning to bankrupt their competition, who are now suing for uncompetitive practices.
The lines at Total stations can go on for kilometers. The rest of Europe remains unaffected. The EU isn't particularly vulnerable to a lack of raw fuel, as its main suppliers are not affected by the Hormuz Strait crisis, but some EU refineries have been running at peak capacity for quite a while and are starting to become strained.
In related news, the EU has accelerated its move to independence from imported fossil fuels (causing budget shortfalls due to the loss in fuel tax revenue), and the sale of electric cars is up 30% in Europe overall, YoY. In anecdotal evidence, I know 4 people who have bought a new car this year, and all of them bought an e-auto.
