I run into this a ton correcting photos of PCBs and then noticing stuff shift in the middle when i'm tracing it out.
it's easy to get the edges aligned but still have drift in the center.
The thing is i'm wondering if "barrel distortion" in terms of what a lens captures is geometrically equivalent to a CRT's curvature. I'd bet it isn't 1:1
