FWIW, my personal view is that we should also be reducing the number and significance of in-person conferences in general.

Not only because conferences are inherently exclusionary – even if held in a country with an ideal and egalitarian visa policy (no such country exists), travel and accommodation costs restrict participation – but also because of the massive environmental cost of so many people travelling to the same place to see papers they could have read or listened to online
