There's a number of things that bind H2 - including a lot that are not precious metals. I didn't drill into them much because they don't really outperform tanks from a price perspective.
For example https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Safest-and-Most-Efficient-Solid-Hydrogen_1601558386946.html HyReachX Titanium-Manganese alloy is selling at 24€ per KG and it can bind about 1.5% H2 by weight (15g / KG).
15g is 1 liter at 200 bar. So if you spend 1200€ you have enough alloy to store the equivalent of 50 liters at 200 bar. But a 200 bar 50 liter steel tank is 100-500€ (depending on who you ask).
