Been using Nginx Proxy Manager for a while and I like it overall thanks to it having a pretty easy to use web GUI.
It works great for basic things like creating a proxy host with an autogenerated Let's Encrypt Cert.
Unfortunately it has some limitations:
- Having a backup server (when a Proxmox node dies or reboots for example), is a pain because I haven't found a proper way to sync the configs. There are a few scripts and things I've seen but they don't seem to be solid enough, so I manually keep them both up to date, and it's not great.
- Wanting to do some advanced things, like using try_files to serve a default image when one is not found, is not working as expected.
Both of these are not major enough to require me to invest the time in finding another solution. Traefik and Caddy are popular alternatives, but they seem to be more geared towards docker deployments (most of my things are not necessarily docker and they run on multiple LXC containers). They also have more complex text only configuration files, but they do support redundancy (at least Traefik does).
I did find a Traefik GUI frontend that seems promising, so I guess I should try it out
