I've observed a few people progress down that route, living in a region where meth use is extremely bad. I don't believe in the devil, but if he were real, he would take the physical form of meth. It fundamentally changes who you are, erasing your morality and empathy and replacing them with suspicion and disgust. I firmly believe a lot of the heinous things that were done in the Holocaust wouldn't have been, had amphetamines not been in common use during that time. Not that it excuses anything, or that they wouldn't have been hateful, hurtful, and subhuman without it. But it removes even the twinges of guilt that hold monsters back.
