I knew I had heard the word #Palantir long before the company came on the scene but never really thought much about it...
I figured it out serendipitously over the weekend while watching the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
Palantir is the singular of Palantiri.
The so-called "Seeing-Stones" are 7 indestructible, spherical, dark crystal artifacts used for long-distance communication and viewing past or distant events.
In the story, they were created by the Elf, Fëanor, and used by the stewards and kings of Gondor, but became dangerous tools that allowed Sauron to corrupt users like Saruman by manipulating what they saw.
