I agree he is playing the heel. 47 is quite a bit worse than 45 in that regard, and I suspect it's largely in response to the shit he's had to put up with to get here. I'll spare you the full enumeration of the illegal and unconstitutional bullshit that he's had to put up with from the party of Trump Derangement Syndrome, but it starts with constant unceasing libel from the media, turns into a three-year hoax about Russia, two unwarranted impeachments, an FBI raid on his family, lawsuits and indictments from corrupt AGs, and ends with him literally getting shot in the head. You'd be a bit miffed too, if you were in his position.
Sure, it'd be nice if people could play along. But nobody on the left will ever give him the benefit of the doubt, and no one will ever be civil to him. So I can totally see why he's shed the civility himself.
Am I okay with this incivility? It really doesn't affect me. I'm not in the room with him, and I don't watch 24-hour news. I'm far more concerned with what he does than what he says.
Policing tone while not bothering to address actions is a weak argument.
