You know, they got rid of the draft and increased the size of the standing military because after Vietnam they realized that *requiring* the people of the country to fight their wars threatened their ability to transmute what they see as worthless and surplus lives for pretty treasure and imperial dominance, and ultimately would mobilize the vast lazy middle in ways that they couldn't control.
Haven't you ever wondered why there's no "war taxes"? Why after 2001 we stopped passing AUMFs?
