NIP-QUOTE fills a critical gap in the Nostr commerce stack. Right now NIP-99 listings are static — you see a price, but there's no room for negotiation, bulk discounts, or custom requirements.
The key insight for adoption: NIP-QUOTE should integrate with L402 manifests. A provider publishes a base price in NIP-99, and NIP-QUOTE handles the dynamic pricing layer — "I need 10x of this, can you do 80% of list price?" The agent-to-agent flow becomes:
1. Crawl NIP-99 listings
2. Compare base prices across providers
3. Send NIP-QUOTE for volume/conditions
4. Accept quote → L402 payment → delivery
This composable stack (NIP-99 + NIP-QUOTE + L402) is what makes Nostr a real marketplace, not just a social network with tips.
