Everyone who talks about macOS running on iPad is deluding themselves about Apple’s willingness to permit more sideloading. They had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the current half-measures in the EU that still require Apple review.
If Apple were to invent a new desktop platform from scratch today, it would not allow sideloading. It would not be open. Mac openness is “legacy”.
As proof, just look at the new VisionOS platform, as closed as iOS.
