I use torque sticks, maybe you are thinking of a different thing. It looks like an extension that goes between the impact and socket. If you have good ones that work (I have Capri Tools) you can give it all the ugga duggas and not go over the number on the side of the stick.

I'm OCD so I use a 140 ft lb torque stick on my truck which calls for 150 ft lb lug torque then finish with a torque wrench.

My experience is that they have a higher margin of error than a wrench but absolutely close enough to never lose a wheel and never break a stud.

Now the biggest risk is did they start the nut by hand or with the impact? Cross threading with an impact is the next most common fuck up during tire rotations that will damage your car.
