I would argue that we have never had a powerful liberal party. Not in my lifetime anyway. They’ve been neolibs since Reagan.
I’m old GenX, and my whole life the Dems have been puffing smoke up everyone’s ass about “liberal” policies, while pushing through legislation to reward capitalists. Sure, the ACA is better than nothing, but it certainly wasn’t a leftist policy. Voting to bail out the banks and not homeowners? Not leftist. Making sure none of those bankers were charged with anything? Not left. Bowing down to GOP nonsense with the bullshit cover story of bipartisanship? Not leftist.
The Dems have spent my entire life saying “you have to vote for us, cause the other guy is so awful”, rather than saying “Here’s how we can take back what the oligarchs have stolen.”
Liberalism died because the Dem leadership shivved it decades ago.
