I’ve encountered more than one US liberal who a) believes that Americans will be subject to fascist dystopia if they do not re-elect Joe Biden and b) refuses to engage in even the slightest effort to persuade people to vote for Joe Biden, preferring to rage and insult instead.
I can’t help but notice this discrepancy and conclude that, on some level, they don’t actually believe (a). Either they’re not as worried about fascism as they claim, or they’re not as confident in the effects of voting as they assert.
So (b) seems more like a pressure-release valve for them, or perhaps a pre-emptive scapegoating, for when voting fails and they end up with fascism anyway.
It can’t be the *system* that fails them; the system can only be failed by unbelievers who don’t vote hard enough.
