Splitting Israel in half is just another way of doing what was already done by splitting off Gaza & The West Bank. The only difference is the amount of land that was ceded.
You say it would be in exchange for "a lasting peace", but that's false. As long as there are groups who want nothing short of Jewish Extermination, that won't happen.
