I'd say net positive after all. While I think I understand the opinions against AI, my personal experience with people who claim that's the reason has been 100% them shielding their sloppy work (definitely not claiming that's true in all cases, just my experience). We let go of two freelancers - which you could claim was due to AI. But we'd been unhappy with them for a longer time. AI just allowed us to see concrete evidence behind our suspicions, and made the transition forward without them less painful (not easy, mind you). Current standing is that we need to do this work in-house, since freelancers tended not to fit our work ethic and screw with us. Yet, because we're able to do this work with less cost now, we can grow in that department and reach the point where we'll take on someone full-time. And a few more related experiences - don't want to bore you 😁

For my work output, it sometimes means doing things faster - most of the time, though, it's about getting a better result for the same effort. Like exploring multiple options before committing is suddenly less of an issue, having work double-checked, or implementing routines that should have been automated in the first place. That kind of thing.

So the improvement isn't as big as one could expect from the headlines (though there are people out there moving fast and breaking things, in a less sustainable manner IMO - time will tell), but it's good enough.
