[joke dissection]

"Fucking Time Machine salesman ripped me off.

I bought a Time Machine from this guy and tried to go back in time to October 10th, 1582 but it didn’t work, saying “invalid date” or some such.

Tried again using a hard override and it dumped me off the coast of Africa on 1/1/1970."

>Thursday, October 4, 1582, was followed immediately by Friday, October 15, 1582. The days of October 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th simply vanished from the civil record—they never existed for the people living in those territories. The switch was not universally accepted.

>Unix time[a] is a date and time representation widely used in computing. It measures time by the number of non-leap seconds that have elapsed since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, the Unix epoch. For example, at midnight on 1 January 2010, Unix time was 1262304000.

>If you look at the intersection of 0 degrees latitude (known as the equator) and 0 degrees longitude (known as the prime meridian) on a map, you will see that the degree confluence falls in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, in the Gulf of Guinea off the coast of western Africa.
