One would be a pessimistic one, the dark forest hypothesis: being silent is the best option to survive because otherwise other civilisations would destroy you to avoid you developing self-replicant probes that storm the galaxy. A more optimistic one they would call it "transcendence", that you refrain from creating this probes because you respect other forms of life and want to watch their development instead of stealing their resources.
