⚡📄👮‍♂ NEW - Cryptocurrencies, AI, and online scams cost the United States nearly $21 billion in 2025, according to a new FBI report on cybercrime.

The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) received a total of 1,008,597 complaints, up from 859,532 in 2024.

Phishing, extortion, and financial scams were the most frequently reported offenses.

Americans over the age of 60 reported losses totaling approximately $7.7 billion, a 37% increase from 2024.

The IC3 received approximately 453,000 complaints of online fraud, with reported losses exceeding $17.7 billion.

Americans who filed complaints regarding cryptocurrencies reported the highest losses, with 181,565 complaints totaling more than $11 billion.

In 2024, the FBI launched Operation Level Up, a proactive initiative that helped notify more than 8,000 victims and reduce losses by over $500 million.

In 2026, the FBI launched Operation Winter SHIELD, highlighting concrete steps organizations can take to strengthen their cybersecurity.

For the first time in nearly 25 years, the IC3 report dedicates a section to artificial intelligence, which accounted for 22,364 complaints and cost Americans nearly $893 million.

Scammers use pressure tactics to defraud Americans, deploying fake social media profiles, voice clones, fake IDs, and convincing videos featuring public figures or loved ones.
