It's fiction, meant to entertain. Most "hard sf" is also impossible in some way or another if you start looking closely. I'm happy to give any author at least one pass for anything impossible, highly improbable, or factually wrong when it's in the service of making a story fun and compelling.

And sf has never been the go-to genre for deep, introspective character portraits or meditations on the human condition. It's fine; the world is the main character anyhow.
