I was thinking about why in deep sky images nearly every object is a galaxy. There are about as many galaxies in the observable universe as there are stars in our own galaxy, but the stars in our galaxy are mostly concentrated in the galactic disk, much of which (along with any galaxies beyond them) we can't see because of dust. Galaxies, meanwhile, are spread all over the sky. So unless a deep sky image happens to be looking along the plane of our galaxy, most of the objects in it are going to be galaxies.
