It's not that it's hard to set up or run a lightning node, per se. Mildly complicated, maybe, but it's time consuming and unpredictability expensive. Especially if you have limited funds to lock up and risk losing.
I've tried a lightning node. I tried the lightning-node-in-the-phone thing. Both caused me nothing but grief & money loss. I can deal with one or the other, to some extent, but not both 😅
I know there are services, like Alby, to handle some of the headache now, but the cost is what I consider to be right on the cusp of prohibitive. If I reeeeally wanted or needed to do it, it'd probably be worth it. I don't have the participant numbers or the expendable income to justify it right now.
