It was easy as a tourist to focus on the good stuff. When you live there, it's probably easier to focus on the challenges. Japan has so much rich tradition that it isn't surprising that modern life butts heads with that tradition on a regular basis. Still, I love the Japanese appreciation for fine craftsmanship. I encountered the most amazing artisans in Japan trying to keep traditional skills alive in an ever modernizing society.
