Of course it wasn't batteries. The actually interesting question is what was the explosive? You have the ability to only use a few grams so you need the most powerful punch you can get. HMX? CL-20? I certainly don't know. I met with explosives scientists at the NRL a couple times to hear what they were up to, I think you'd be nuts to do that work. Another possibility - PETN. Or RDX.
