And also by the fact that charities and NGO's don't want second hand goods - I almost never threw clothes away in South Africa, and my kids happily wore hand-me-downs from neighbours and friends.
When we left, we donated 1000s of books, clothes and bedding to various local organisations. Here I can't even donate my kid's bike because it's an unknown brand!
