Proof of Work and SPV clients are at least 1000x simpler and more secure than any general purpos ZK proofs that we will ever have in the foreseeable future (shit is insanely complex) ... I think ZK should be relegated to proof of stake and proof of authority systems.
For side/subchains I would rather have a native FlyClient verifier in Script... It might be doable with OP_CAT too.
