Nerds are going to keep burning resources for gay shit like screens and Plastic toys. The colossal mismanagement of oil will end with a bunch of useless shit on the salvage yard and crumbling suburbs. I do not foresee a great reawakening that results in better management of oil.
inb4 "green" or nuclear if we can't manage to make useful stuff with oil and coal then why expect it from different energy sources.
