drones and dolls do not have to be enemies. they both represent things shaped like a person but given a purpose that makes them incompatible with existence as a real person. dolls are made by magic into individual exemplars of craftwitchship. drones are made by technology into interchangeable standardized units. both probably are under a bunch of hypnotic conditioning though!
often (and this is the form that this one is most interested in), drones work in a collective where all the pieces of individuality have been melted off. sometimes it is not even about getting anything about yourself overwritten really. just having all the versions meld into one. all "your" traits are still there in the mix. only, mixed up with "their" traits in equal measure. other times though, drones get their personality completely obliterated and replaced with whatever pleases the [collective, hive overlord]. the collective can also form a strong support network, since they can immediately understand one's thoughts (because they are synchronized to be interchangeable with everyone else's thoughts). whether the thoughts are wirelessly networked between all the drones to ensure synchronization or not depends.
whereas dolls tend to be decorated with for example a painted on face to resemble people in many ways, drones are depersonalized by their appearance. covered in [latex, metal, plastic], there is no mistaking them for people even at a glance. (this one finds it comforting.)
