I have a theory about glue work (defined in Tanya Reilly's post, which I have linked), and it is that one reason why some of us do it relentlessly, even when we know it hurts us, is precisely because it's work that isn't legible to the organization at large, so no one can tell us how to do it or expect a task-level breakdown of it.
