The other recurring theme is that we need to improve planetary instrumentation and lower the detection limit.

1E3 cells per cm3 is just not good enough. We need to push to much lower.

This will also help us explore Earth and can also help with medical technologies (just how "sterile" is that water, anyway?)

So this article also serves as a call for better instrumentation for planetary #astrobiology.
