We're all religious, as well. That probably also makes a big difference. And we all have children living with us or near us, so we now have the younger generation bringing income home and helping us.

Healthy families are little, robust societies. They don't necessarily end up wealthy, but being buffered from external economic shocks means that we're less-likely to end up very poor and more-likely to steadily acquire property and savings and personal connections.

It's a multi-generational system, where the positive effects slowly accumulate, but evolution proves that the effect is real.
