When I was young, my ancestors that survived the partition of India would say that they had seen the worst possible sights ever. I thought their suffering was unique.
Then I learnt about the the Jewish people, the Palestinian people, the enslaved peoples around the same time (access to Microsoft Encarta), now I know of even more holocausts, native Americans, native Africans, Armenians and more.
The millennia long oppression of the Dalits is in there as well.
