Expressionism explained simply.

I come from an area known for Expressionism. We were the European Capital of Culture last year. That really could have been a chance to show something. Unfortunately, it had nothing to do with art or culture, and the officials and functionaries knew of only one artistic movement: “It’s all nonsense.”

For everyone else who still has a shred of humanity left: here’s a brief explanation of Expressionism. The name comes from the expressive style of painting. Rough, powerful strokes that often don’t form a picture when viewed up close. It becomes real art when, from a distance, you suddenly see a clear image with the tiniest details.

The symbolic image here isn’t Expressionism, but a hamburger and chips. But I want to be considerate of people who’ve never seen anything else. There seem to be quite a few of them.
