No young man who joins a band understands what he's fighting for in a greater sense. He's simply joined his fellows to fight and claim space and become part of the brotherhood. It's a normal and healthy instinct to do this. The way to address it is to shame them while being understanding, not to wish death upon their families and the mutilation of their children.
