Here is a distant view of the Palace of Versailles from the gardens. It was largely built by Louis XIV, in the late C17th. It's many years since I visited and took this shot, and I have to say I found it impressive, but without being really likeable. It's altogether too ornate, gargantuan, and formal for my taste. There's just too much of the powdered wig about it...
