Universal numbering systems can only be managed by a central gate keeper. &#xA;&#xA;This is not a matter of achieving consensus, it&#39;s a matter of defining WHAT IS consensus. In an environment where ANY npub can propose a new standard, and ANY app (client, relay, or otherwise) can implement ANY proposal at any time, WHO IS TO SAY when consensus is reached on any proposal&#39;s &#34;officialness&#34;, let alone it&#39;s &#34;official number&#34;?&#xA;&#xA;As soon as THE NOSTR has reliable WoT tools for qualifying &#34;relative officialness&#34; (prolly some hybrid of &#34;well written&#34;, &#34;well implemented&#34;, and &#34;stable&#34; within someone&#39;s network) then ANY individual CAN AND WILL do so on their own. At this stage, numbered NIPs will only be legacy.&#xA;&#xA;This horse has already left the barn. &#xA;https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/2102</html></oembed>
