Residency for a plan B. I think neither of them are as good as other options (Uruguay, Paraguay). But there is something about Panama for real life. If you forget about tax, business opportunities (not a good business environment for me - too unreliable, too slow), it has its charm. Sit at the beach. Drink coconut water and the best coffee in the world. Quite good infrastructure. Quite liberal for most things in practice if not on paper. People go to Costa Rica for pura vida, but I think Panama is better and a bit cheaper. People consider it a tax haven, which it is, but I think it can offer much more. Did I mention the best coffee in the world? :) If you are a solopreneur, creator, or retired, it's a very good home base.
