Email is something that I've never self hosted (I've tried ages ago). If my server goes down I can live with all my services down for sometime, but without email it could be a problem. Think what happens if your email server goes down and you're on vacation on the other side of the world: you can't even receive the boarding pass of your flight. And all the emails will be bounced back.
