Depends on the area I guess and what customers are used to. Lots of labor these days is set by the MFG on book time, whether all or partial service is warranty (very common these days) so some shops have to upcharge parts to keep the lights on. More true in smaller shops who want to compete on labor. It's a trade off that shakes down dependent on the repair. \n\nMFGs don't really give a fuck about dealers anymore. Depends on the brand, but some are downright hostile. Now that MFGs have started to sell direct to customer they don't need dealers anymore, and if they do, they can control them with force instead. Most dealers don't own the cars on their lot, that GM financial number i listed also has a section on how much is on loan to dealerships. It's way higher than consumer loans. They keep the debt low and are able to work out rollover deals with dealers. \n\nMost dealers are in dept to the MFGs now. The MFGs are in control. That's pretty recent. id say within the past 5-6 years. "}
