Actually, I think I first learned of Nostr by using a search engine to look for decentralized alternatives to Twitter. I came across a blog post that had Damus (I don't think they realized the difference between the protocol and client), Mastodon, and Bluesky.
Mastodon was fucking awful.
Nostr was so cool that I didn't even try Bluesky. Although, it did take about a year for Nostr clients to get to a level I could cope with full time.
My guess is that far more people will take this sort of path than the conference one. I'd assume that MOST people who will care at conferences have already bought in. Basically, a Nostr conference. I see value in that, but not some random Nostr booth at a general conference.

The conference scene seems a very American phenomena, I occasionally tech conferences in the UK and I can’t picture this scenario. I mean it would brighten it up if someone was saying “Check out Nostr” in amongst the cheap coffee and biscuits.
People here attend conferences for work reasons. It’s funny, I see folks jetting from conference to conference, really enjoying themselves watching PowerPoint presentations. Not hating, just a very different world.

Why do people think booths at conferences are a good way to “grow nostr”? I don’t think they are.
It takes a certain type of person to show up to a conference, and it won’t be the kind that will stroll by the booth and decide.. you know.. out of ALL this stuff that’s here to be marketed to me, I’m going to go ahead and check this one out and stick around long term. Besides, the number of people exposed to the protocol that way is insignifcant.
Is the goal simply to attrack other builders and people who have the means of pulling in audiences? Is that it?
I look at the costs of these things, the effort required (marketing materials etc…) to put on one of these booths and it just doesn’t seem like it makes any economical sense. To send a person to another country alone is not an insignifcant amount of money which could be spent much more efficiently on guierilla marketing campaigns. City to city within the same country.. eh, maybe makes more sense, but still, how many people are you really reaching? Conferences seem tailored towards relaitonship building and sales where just getting to know one individual is extremely beneficial.
I understand conferences for the sake of getting like-minded builders together to explore new things, but for promotion of USE of protocol makes no sense.

he just wrote the event store wrong, every single filter spawns like 5 threads for no reason, i rewrote it so it's all a single thread and today running it continuously overnight i'm not getting any problems (other users are connecting to it also this time)

it's your eventstore, it uses way too many goroutines, like 4 or 5 or something per query, i think actually it does that many per filter so a multi-filter query is even worse
i changed the thing so it just does a single thread for everything now, it does the initial query for stored events, returns a slice of events and then the subscriptions are separately handled, no channel, no multiple parallel queries
i build a garbage collector also, which is able to perform a full data size census and last access time determination of all events stored in the database and it can do a 15Gb event store in about 8 seconds, using the transaction batching interface
the main problem with your code is the threading, you are fanning out into too many threads, it is not more efficient, because it isn't using the optimal mechanism used by badger batching

I meant, here, one of the kids (traditionally eldest son) never moves out; their spouse moves in to the family house and he buys the "inheritance portions" of the other kids, when the parents die, and then the house is his. This is in return for taking care of the parents and their home, in old age.
It's a multigenerational model because there are a lot of farms and small businesses around here, and the houses are often large or contain multiple apartments.

Everyone wants privacy for themselves and transparency for others. Whether they realise it or not, everyone wants what monero offers. Game theory suggests that Bitcoin will adopt privacy rather than perish to something else like monero. I think the need for privacy will become apparent before it's too late for Bitcoin. Bitcoin will adopt privacy while it's still the dominant cryptocurrency and maintain its network effect. However, if the USD is still too strong and Bitcoin becomes captured, monero could grow in dominance in the alternative economy and be the currency to topple the USD.
The other threat is fractional reserve banking. Everyone wants the most secure store of value. Again, game theory suggests that every coin will be fractionally reserved as much as possible, until the risk vs reward balances. Variable block size helps prevent fractional reserves by lessening friction on bankruns. This would require tail emissions and abandoning the 21 million cap, which is not going to happen on Bitcoin.
Honestly it's hard to know so far in advance what the better tradeoffs will be. By the time it becomes apparent it may be too late. That's why I think that variable block size may be the deciding factor in a contest for dominance.
I think Moneros poor performance comes from being pumped initially, and Bitcoins dominance in the discovery of cryptocurrency as a store of value phase. I expect monero to strengthen as the transition to medium of exchange phase takes place.

This generation didn’t get many breaks: lack of employment opportunities post 08 crisis (their prime years to get started on a professional path), rising costs of living, unaffordable housing, lack of long term employment security, bleak climate outlook, growing totalitarianism and lack of hope, Covid, rising cost of education, unpayble student loans, ever-growing skillset required for good positions, more inflation.
Ya, you could pull yourself through all of these and be fine if you worked hard enough, made smart decisions and were ahead of the curve, but previous generations had it much easier.

Event archivers are a thing and they catch events very quickly. So the owner of the archive could potentially have that feature.
Someone made a bot to display all deleted content on Bluesky. I think this would be hard to do with Nostr because you’d need a couple of the original first before the relays got the delete and I suspect relays don’t keep around the delete events either.

They send people to other countries all the time. Two homeless shelters within a couple blocks and they don't help. I was talking with a couple elders in that church a few weeks back who have an issue with it as well and many are leaving the church. It's sad. My old church did the same thing too. This will change as the economy worsens though.

I would really love to know why #Christian churches in the United States love to go on their fancy missions trips to tell themselves they are doing good works, meanwhile there are countless people that are lost and unsaved in the very city that their church operates in. This concept has never seemed genuine to me.
But want to know the worst part? Most of these churches that do this do not even understand grace nor the message of salvation. They adhere to Calvinistic & Lordship Salvation teaching. Telling people to invite Jesus into your heart; give your life to Jesus; say a Sinner’s prayer; or ‘accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior’ are found absolutely nowhere in scripture, NOWHERE. Why isn’t what Jesus said to Martha enough?
Is not the Gospel of John’s very purpose to tell unbelievers how they are to be born again? Did Jesus not say on countless occasions that we are to believe in Him for eternal life? Has the Lord not revealed to us in John 20:31 that the entirety of John’s gospel was written so that we may come to know that we may have life by believing in Christ?
There is not even a political nor social issue that infuriates me more than the heretical views many people have (and TEACH) on soteriology. Yes #Bitcoin is important for this life, but it is absolutely meaningless if we do not have Christ as the foundation of our lives before we use tools like Nostr and Bitcoin to create a more just and purpose-driven Christ-centered world.
For it has been stated clearly — “And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.” (Romans 11:6) It can ONLY be one or the other, and it is certainly not of works.
It is God’s very grace that saves us THROUGH our faith. Faith is the instrument we use to obtain the salvation that God has freely made available to every single human being.
John 6:47 — Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.
This is present possession. We are believing in Jesus FOR the eternal life that he promises. (see 1 Timothy 1:16). The moment we believe in Jesus, you HAVE (present possession) eternal life, permanently, and will not come into judgment.
