I’m using this this lib: https://github.com/Bodmer/TJpg_Decoder and honestly, Claude did the C part for me :) What is S3 SIMD? I might check, although the camera module produces around 6kb jpegs and i don’t know what i can optimize more - the image comes kind of pixelated. Camera can produce better resolutions but because I intend to transfer those over LoRa i need small size, so quality is compromised a bit.

I've implemented imperfect rns:// scheme into MacOS rendering #reticulum #nomadnet pages through rnsd-menubar app. It basically converts micron to html, so it can be shown on the browser. Unfortunately I can’t open rns:// in the same tab I type the address - it has to be a new window - but it’s still Safari. This essentially can enable putting rns:// links in regular html pages <a> tags and if you click it will open the nomad page in new window.

I’ve uploaded to GitHub my RNSD #reticulum MacOS menubar app. It’s a python app, so source code is easy to read. It’s basically a GUI wrapper of rnsd and its sister commands. You can put it in your startup apps on the MacOS to have a reticulum daemon running all the time. For the ones who don’t want to bundle it themselves, i’ve included a bundled executable in the Releases section, so you can just unzip and put it in your /Applications folder (app is not signed 😄) https://github.com/varna9000/rnsd-menubar

I made the same mistake initially. You’ve flashed the wrong Micropython firmware, which supports small amount of ram. Go here: https://micropython.org/download/ESP32_GENERIC_S3/ and scroll down to the section Octal SPIRAM (8mb spiram variant) or even further down to the 4Mb ram variant firmware, depending on what board you have. Try first with the octal one (8mb spiram).

I think Sideband has something similar. I’ll have more time to tinker and improve in couple weeks. If you have ideas PRs are welcome 😄

good choice! As you said, they are cheap enough not to bother with the others. I got one working since yesterday with sds011 and bme280 sensors, serving a nomad page with the (almost) live data. Current uptime: 14h 8m 41s, so looking good 😊 Yesterday I’ve uploaded the latest changes to the repo btw (driver for sds011).

i’ve mad solar nodes only with nrf52, so can’t really say about Esp32. It’s a software provlem in my opinion. I’m testing a fix now and will report back if it worked, at least for reticulum. There’s an open issue on meahtasric github about the same thing but not sure if anyone is working on it.

I’m hitting the same problem with micro #reticulum firmware as with the #meshtastic one. Solar node’s battery can die if we have a week of cloudy skies. With microreticulum, the whole eprom data is written in a single LittleFS file. If the controller browns-out while writing on the EEPROM, it corrupts it and when the battery is charged back, the firmware fails with “eeprom not provisioned”. This makes putting a transport node in the wild pointless. I’ll see if I can make this more resilient.

it seems the nodes are being duplicated because a node may announce different roles. I did some deduplication and colored such nodes with Jupiter like belts in the respective role they have. It will be less crowded (and cool) now. #reticulum #rnsmap3d

I got this ridiculous unresolved problem with #meshtastic Randomly solar nodes stop working and microcontroller doesnt work unless reset. Battery is fine and being charged ok so might be firmware issue. There’s issue on github but it’s unresolved. So i’m thinking of hooking ds3231 rtc module and program an allarm to trigger reset of meshtastic micro. It’s a hack but should work.

After some more testing, I could load #nomadnet #reticlum page over LoRa. The page is hosted directly on the esp32s3. I made also dynamic loading of the bmp280 sensor data 😄 If you just run normal node, the example node responds to “sensor” keyword and echoes back the sensor data. So either works fine on all three tested interfaces - TCP, UDP and LoRa (Rnode).

Now it’s quite easy to hook bme280 via i2c and show sensor data ...

Micropython #reticulum is progressing nicely. I've just added:

1. Transport mode - routing packets between enabled interfaces
2. TCP client interface

I’ve tested sending announcements from laptop via UDP and TCP and I can see on the SDR the packets being re-transmitted over the LoRa interface. Changes are uploaded to the GitHub repo.

Next: Might be a stretch but I’m looking into hosting/serving NomadNet page on the micropython Node 😁

Here’s my forked GitHub repo for the two additional boards for micro #reticulum . Since I don’t have VSCode, so all is done via command line. I’m also using UV for the python dependancies, since it’s much easier. If you fork it , get UV and run ‘uv sync’ and it’ll download all the dependancies. yes, it is autonomous! microreticulum firmware has minimal stack in it, so it runs without additional HW. I’ve got another regular rnode and when I send announcement, I can see it in Xiao’s serial logs. See blow. The logs is a bess because newlines are not properly printed 😄

My experiment to re-assign copy, paste and cut in MacOS to my #emacs bindings was a failure. Many apps have hardcoded defaults and don’t respect the OS. 🤮 I used Mac OS’ rebinding but might try Karabiner.
