How do you convince the next wave who couldnt give a flying fuck about how money works? You make it fun. Which is precisely what we are trying to do with music. We were bitcoiners long before we started HPM. We are three halving deep orange pilling, so mar can miss me with any misguided assumptions about our intentions. We posted reciepts.

Among many things, music is entertainment. Music is a universal language. Throughout time, music has put a mirror up to human culture. I believe music is one of the most effective way to insert bitcoin culture into regular society. Im not even talking about payments in bitcoin yet. Im talking about things like low time preference, an emphasis on quality, and proof of work.

Bitcoin is the best way to save and people should save for their future. But if all you do is hodl and never spend a sat, explain to me how that convinces the next person they should adopt bitcoin? The only thing hodl does effectively in economic sense is restrict supply to force NGU. But if all you do is hodl, what good is NGU to you? So your screen has a bigger fiat number? Cool bro.

Thought exercise. Consider both scenarios in the extreme:

If you acumulated all the bitcoin in the world and hodl'd it forever... no one would use bitcoin and itd be worth nothing. This is because money's value is measured in part by its velocity. Money only establishes/reaffirms its market value each time its exchanged. Anything representing value works in a similar way. A collectible is only really worth anything when its sold. Your funko pop is worth nothing (outside of aesthetic value) sitting on your shelf until its sold or exchanged. Even fiat only truly has value when exchanged for goods and services, otherwise its just paper under a mattress.

Now take it to the other extreme, if you had all the bitcoin in the world and gave it all away/spent it all - - it now has a nonzero chance of adoption. It establishes and reaffirms the fact that it has worth because it can be exchanged for something of benefit.

Hodl vs spend/replace. One encourages NGU while the other encourages hyperbitcoinization. Choose your fighter.

The v4v music scene is growing rapidly but we need better, rock solid wallet solutions that fits the need this particular community. Specifically, we need a simple and reliable keysend wallet to recommend to new artists, most of them coming here as non-bitcoiners.

Love your product but keysend compatibility is essential if im going to recommend a wallet to all the artists we are onboarding. Right now we recommend fountain but for artists who just need a wallet, it can be a bit too much and ironically, a turnoff.

Through the v4v music scene and the significant outreach we are doing outside the bitcoin community, it would be a massive opportunity to orange pill an influential swath of the population. But we need better tools to help us do it...!

Would love to see this. Boosts from fountain into SXWW were awesome because they landed on our boost board AND nostr.

But on the back end, a lot of important metadata was lost. In particular, we couldnt see what chapter (band) was being boosted. We had to rely on converting timestamps to validate.

When everything is working as intended, we should never have to manually adjust splits. But in reality, backups of backups are often used and best laid plans... It would go a long way in encouraging more live shows like ours if it could be integrated as a backstop to ensure sats always go where they're intended, even if other downstream parts of the backend workflow fail. As Steven Bell :pci: :pc2red: (nprofile…c2qa) says, theres flawlessly working open source implementations (battle tested across multiple large scale live events) available for you to utilize.

This is a really well thought out post mortem. A lot of lessons learned and inspired several more similarly ambitious (re: foolish and impossible) ideas for upcoming projects and refinements.
We are going to take v4v music to the big leagues.

For those st home, SXWW brought Metal Madness at Maggie Mae's straight to your monitor.
It was a successful proof of concept, showing we can flawlessly handle remote streams and syndication. Bigger things coming on this front.

On 3/13/26 (Friday), Maggie Mae's completed its first Bitcoin transaction. We are the only bar on historic 6th st. accepting Bitcoin.

I'd like to give special thanks to MartialMind and OpenMike. Martialmind introduced me to Bitcoin and nostr, and OpenMike introduced us to the local bitcoin community at Bitcoin Park, as well as the v4v music community.

I dont disagree - and im not saying everyone zap and we'll take down spotify tomorrow. There's a lot of steps in between and a lot of points of failure. Yeah we've been around this carousel before but it only starts if we insert a token first.

Some will accuse me of thinking "but thisntime its different". Well that's the thing, it really is. We have real industry people like myself, OpenMike (nprofile…cxgp) Aaron of Essex (nprofile…zgsh) means (nprofile…fc59) here and a whole load of real difference makers in the real world pushing this forward.

We are talking to mainstream artists who play to crowds of millions and getting positive responses. I have in my hands an album to release, from one of the touring members of the Goo Goo Dolls. We have major venues that are on the world's stage interested in what we are doing here. It may not seem obvious from our little corner of the world but forces are in motion every day. This momentum builds very slowly in a world where the talent swims in a pool of sharks and we are getting somewhere.

Keep the faith is kinda what I'm saying here.

Specifically to your point of supporting music outside of your taste - its about the bigger picture. You're supporting the artist, but that vote of confidence also supports the message that we opt out of their system. This supports the greater overall network. The stronger we are, the better chance we attract musicians you actually do enjoy. And most people can recognize talent, even if you dont enjoy the content per se. These monetary votes of support is signal, and propagating the signal matters.

If artists get paid they tell their friends. Word of mouth is still king in the indie music scene. These friends bring fans. These fans are the superfans who will actually follow a band to a less convenient place, for nothing but the sake of support. This grows nostr in a real way that sticks.

We have musicians who are on the mission, willing to give to you, created at their own expense, incredible culture, art, and joy.

Punk rock and all the iterations of music that followed, came from scrappy underground scenes. A place where ideas of change and revolution could flourish. Dreams of a better world. A place where the voices of the silenced could be heard. A place where you were empowered to create, free from the shackles of quarterly earnings. We need a space so punk rock, it gives a voice to those yelling into the void. Does this sorta place sound familiar, nostr?

People cry about not having content but dont support it when it shows up. We've had swaths of different communities blow through here over the years...

Do it in every silo you specialize in and we suddenly have an ecosystem built for actual users, beyond the protocol layer.
Users interact more intuitively at a platform layer, not the protocol layer. Right tools for the right job.

We opted not to do an irc chat for a few reasons, lmk what you think: I wanted to try and keep things simplified. I wanted an experience that would translate for those at home with a mouse, as well as those at a watch party or public venue on a big screen. This was in part a tech showcase for venues at sxsw. Irc chat box would have required a login with our current templates, and that would be a lot of wasted real-estate if it was on a big screen. We didnt have the time this go around to rebuild that. We also wanted to incentivize tipping the artists. Gotta pay for space on the stream!

I think for live on location and livestream acts, an irc chat would have been great. Artists often feed off that interactivity.

We should have been live on all pc2.0 apps! Fountain is a bit of a different beast with how its tied to nostr. We were linked to it on the wallet side but for whatever reason it was streaming the NA Stream on audio. Most of our streaming issues stemmed from attempting nostr compatibility.

These are all excellent suggestions. Strap line would be doable, ...

For this show, because we were short staffed and it was such a mix of signals (live stage vs livestream vs prerecorded vs open mic) and each one requires a separate workflow, staying on schedule was a pipe dream. Our format simply had too many moving pieces for a firm schedule. Depending on format, I can definitely see how a TV guide type thing would be slick! I originally wanted to post times on the website. I ultimately resorted to posting NOW PLAYING notes on nostr. Wasn't ideal but its what I could do in real time. We'll refine for the next!

We tried to but we ran into issues with signing - thus delayed start. We had it all ready to go but couldnt broadcast our feed. Instead had to disconnect and scramble to backup backend setup immediately. The crew did a tremendous job getting us live.

Maybe a restream on nostr would have been safer but we wanted to preserve live splits. Its a trickier thing than meets the eye!

We have ideas on this front though.

Hey #sxworldwide i wanted to ask - what would you like to see next year? Im talking in terms of what sort of interactivity would make this a more immersive community experience for you?

Did you like having only a superchat and the chatter happening on nostr?

Would a bot relaying boost comments onto nostr be interesting or annoying?

Would you like to see more on screen elements and surprises or is simple better?

Do you like all the different wallet options (when they work 😬) or do you not care?

Whatever we do next, I want to build on top of all that we learned to create the Greatest Show Online!
