Vertical farming, if done right is an extremely efficient use of water, and nearly 100% use of the added fertilizer, or as it is in the case of aquaponics, added fish feed nitrogen. If a building was like a cohousing project, with every family on the southern side of the building having a few rows of the nutrient film pipes for their own fitting, it might actually be great. not as a top down approach, but withing a communal effort. At the ground level or below ground, there might be a hidden fish tank and the filters, the feed there doesn&#39;t need to be transported up with any elevators but simply pumped up to the roof and then gravitationally distributed to the flats. <br/><br/>The best outcome would be not only locally grown vegetables, but also out-of-market ways of sustaining people. Large system is always more stable than a small ones.
