Community science.

"Can students be the front lines of conservation? A new Canada-wide study, published in Metabarcoding and Metagenomics, suggests they can. Article by Philip Ball.

"All attempts to quantize GR have so far produced unsatisfactory answers, says Igor Pikovski of Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey. "Your body already has a detox system. It is called your liver, supported by your kidneys and gut, and it has been doing this job your entire life.

I am a liver researcher. I study how this organ works, how it gets damaged and how it repairs itself. So if you are wondering whether you need to detox, my honest answer is that most healthy people do not. "A new phase of water ice, dubbed ice XXI, has been discovered by researchers working at the European XFEL and PETRA III facilities. The ice, which exists at room temperature and is structurally distinct from all previously observed phases of ice, was produced by rapidly compressing water to high pressures of 2 GPa. The finding could shed light on how different ice phases form at high pressures, including on icy moons and planets.""

https://physicsworld.com/a/ice-xxi-appears-in-a-diamond-anvil-cell/

#Physics #Ice #Materials #Water

"For years, the existence of the Eurasian Otter (Lutra lutra) in Malaysia had remained uncertain, with the last confirmed sighting reported in 2014 near the Danum Valley Field Centre in Sabah. I suppose no time better than the present, on Singapore's Independence Day. I've put up a website for my book, magazine and on-line fiction reviews. It currently covers what I've read from the present back to 2019, with further back-dated reviews (my Goodreads reviews) to be added from time to time.

The reviews are simple markdown formatted text files. They are hosted on Github with Github Pages being used to generate the final HTML files.

https://sohkamyung.github.io/reviews/README.html

#Reviews #Books #Stories
