Saw some gold and red cherry trees(I thought) in a ditch off a highway exit and after trying to crane my head to see them without causing an accident, I went out of my way to turn around, go back, and park in a likely illegal and dangerous place. They’re actually Klamath plums, also called Oregon plums or cherry plums. The trees looked fantastic so I picked and ate some and am going to save all the seed for planting. Yes, I know it will take forever to grow fruit. #gardening #orchard

I tried nontoxic clay (surround) sprays, but they were messy and ineffective at preventing coddling moth. So now I painstakingly look at every fruit, thinning clusters from 4-6 down to 1 undamaged fruit with a strong stem, and removing any rolled up leaves that may be hiding insects. Then I place drawstring bags on each fruit. This little 5 year old tree was easy because it’s only 6 feet tall, but I didn’t thin enough, and even I think it looks ridiculous. #orchards #gardening #permaculture

Today I was warned by the Veterans Administration Office of Community Care that this time they are sure: many of my Veteran patients really are going to lose benefits. The VA is recommending they seek care from home health and hospice, as well as on Medicaid waiver programs. But these programs are also likely to be cut dramatically. These men are elderly, have ptsd and war wounds, and they deserve to have the care that was promised them. I am 😡😤😢🤬! #veterans

I ate the very last of my apples today. They were kind of dried up, and the skins had thickened, but they still tasted better than grocery apples. These are Muscat de Venus, a grapey sweet crab, and Gold Rush, which is supposed to be a little bigger.
